Alamo commission candidate drops out of the race after 24 hours

He filed to run just one day after Escobedo was arrested in Donna and charged with driving while intoxicated.Then Vicencio -- who had requested that his name appear on ballots as "El Ralph Vicencio" -- dropped out the next morning, as a story ran in The Monitor about his candidacy.He said Tuesday nigh存倉 that a long discussion with his ill wife had led to a change of heart."I said, 'All right,'" he said. "She's got Parkinson's disease. I just decided to stay home with her."Escobedo, who has refused calls since his arrest, walked away from a reporter and refused comment at the City Commission meeting Tuesday night.He called it too soon to answer any questions or talk about the election, noting that he has not yet formally filed to run.
